Privacy policy
Effective 6 November 2026
In short
- ikut uses your location only during a trip you have joined, and only as much as you choose to share.
- What you share goes to the other people in that trip, nobody else. They can see your drive in the trip’s review afterwards.
- Your trips are kept until you delete them from your history, leave them, or delete your account. Nothing is deleted just because time passed, apart from the two cases below.
- No ads, no tracking across apps, no analytics, and your data is never sold.
Who we are
ikut is run by Aqlan (“we”). For anything about your data, write to aqlan.dev@gmail.com.
What ikut collects
| What | Why | Who can see it |
|---|---|---|
| Your account: a user ID, and the name you choose to show | To sign you in and show the others who you are. With Sign in with Apple we ask Apple for your name only, never your email. You can also use ikut as a guest. | Your name: the people in your trips. Your user ID: nobody else in the app. |
| Trips you plan or join: name, destination, date and time, meeting point, stops, the trip code | To run the trip | The people in that trip, and anyone you give the code to while the trip can be joined |
| Your precise location, while a trip is open and you share it | To show where you are, work out arrival times, and warn you and others about hazards ahead | The people in that trip |
| Your drive: the path you drove while sharing your location | For the trip’s review: the map, the replay and the distance | The people in that trip, during and after it |
| Your arrival time | So the others know when you’ll get there | The people in that trip |
| What you report and answer: hazards (with their place), stop requests, your Agree or Skip, who you’re riding with, when you arrived or left | To share them with the trip and show them in its timeline | The people in that trip |
| A notification token for your phone, per trip | To send that trip’s notifications (trip open, reminders, stops, hazards, the organiser’s changes) | Nobody; only our server uses it |
How much location you share
When you join a trip you choose how to share, and you can change it at any time during the trip.
- When I start driving or From the meeting point: once you’re on your way, ikut shares where you are (about every 5 seconds while you move), your route ahead and your arrival time.
- Only my arrival time: ikut uses your phone’s GPS to work out when you’ll arrive, and sends only that time. Your position is not shared. A hazard you report still includes where it is, so the others can be warned.
- Stop sharing: nothing about you is sent to the others, not even your arrival time.
ikut asks for location Always so that arrival times and hazard warnings keep working while your screen is off or another app is open, such as your navigation app. ikut does not use your location outside a trip you have joined, and sharing stops when you stop sharing, leave the trip, or the trip is complete. When the organiser pauses a trip, positions stop and only arrival times continue.
Services we use
- Google Firebase stores trips and accounts and runs our server code (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore and Cloud Functions in the Singapore region, Firebase Cloud Messaging for notifications, and App Check to make sure requests come from the real app).
- Apple provides Sign in with Apple, push notifications, and App Attest. ikut uses Apple Maps to plan routes and work out arrival times. To do that your phone sends Apple the start and end of each route, including your current location. This also happens on Stop sharing, so your phone can show your own arrival time on your Lock Screen. The time is never sent to the others.
These companies process the data for us, under their own privacy terms. We don’t share your data with anyone else, and we don’t sell it.
On your phone
ikut keeps a list of your trips, a copy of recent trip data, your Live Activity and your reminders on your phone. These go when you delete the trip from your history, sign out, or delete the app.
How long it is kept, and how to delete it
Your data is kept until you delete it:
- Delete a trip from your history (Past trips): your drive, reports and answers on that trip are deleted from our server. The trip stays for the others until the last person in it deletes it.
- Leave a trip: the same.
- Delete your account (Settings): your name, your drives, and what you reported and answered on every trip are deleted, and so is your account. Trips you organise are handed to someone else in them. A trip with no one else in it is deleted.
- When the last person in a trip deletes it or leaves, the whole trip is deleted.
Two exceptions are deleted automatically:
- A planned trip that was never opened, 7 days after its date.
- Guest data with no one to delete it, 12 months after the guest’s last use.
Signing out takes your trips off your phone, but your drives stay in them for the others. To remove a drive, delete that trip from your history first. You can also ask us to delete your data, or for a copy of it, at aqlan.dev@gmail.com.
Children
ikut is not meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and its date, and tell you in the app if the change matters to you.
